Ingredients:


 ulavalu  1 cup (soaked overnight)

 green chilies : 3

 onions : 4 (finely chopped )

 red chillies : 2

 curry leaves :1 cup

 mustard seeds :1tsp

 cumin seeds : 1tsp

 tamarind (very small quantity)

 jaggery

 oil : 2 tablespoon

salt

METHOD  :




 Grind coriander seeds, cumin seeds and garlic cloves to a fine powder and keep aside.

 Soak  the ulavalu (1 cup horse gram) overnight  and boil it in 10 cups of water.

 The liquid after boiling turns into dark brown chocolate colour.


 Strain the liquid and keep aside

 now take the boiled dal (take only half cup ulavalu) and strained liquid , make a paste.

 heat the pan,add oil then add mustard ,cumin (jeera) seeds,red chillies,curry leaves and fry

 Next add the onions and green chillies and fry for 1 minute

 Add boiled ulavalu liquid and add salt, jaggery and turmeric pwd.

 Now add the powder ( which was made before with cloves,coriander and cumin seeds), ulavallu

 paste and tamarind paste and let it cook  for 15 minutes on low flame.

 stir occasionally till the soup becomes thick.

 serve hot this ulava charu by adding cream or butter.
